Why it’s okay to not be an expert – Living as a multipotentialite

For a long time, I thought something was wrong with me. I couldn’t decide on one thing. Art, design, photography, coaching – I started many things, let some of them go again, and felt restless and inconsistent because of that.
Why our society prefers specialists
We all know the headlines:“Experts with many years of experience.”“Proven expertise.”“Professional competence.”These words create trust. They promise safety and good results when we hire someone or buy something. And that makes sense.
Versatility as a supposed weakness
Our society loves experts. People who specialize early are seen as reliable, successful, and focused. Those who don’t follow this path are often seen as undecided or unstable. That’s how I saw myself for a long time. And it really affected my self-confidence.
What a multipotentialite really is
Much later, I understood something important:I am a multipotentialite. That doesn’t mean I lack focus. It means my focus works differently. I don’t think in boxes – I think in connections. My strength is not being the best in one field, but connecting different skills and perspectives.
Why your path doesn’t have to be linear
This realization was freeing.Suddenly, my life story made sense. Everything I learned, tried, and later let go of was not a detour .It was part of a bigger picture. Being a multipotentialite takes courage. This path is rarely linear. But it is honest. And it is sustainable – especially if you don’t want to live against your own nature anymore.
